Location Lackland AFB, TX
Square Footage 31,000 SF
This 31,000 SF Design/Build/Initial Outfitting health care renovation encompassed repair efforts in three separate buildings, all of which required initial outfitting transition and commodity purchase services. The project relocated the Air Force’s premier Drug Testing Lab (DTL) from Brooks Base to Lackland AFB, and the Behavioral Health department to another site on base and renovated the Health Department’s clinical lab, as well as the Vet Clinic. Mill Creek’s transition planning efforts were critical to the project’s success as all departments remained fully operational throughout construction.
Relocation of the DTL across town to the Lackland base required the subcontracting of numerous original equipment manufacturers, as well as specialized healthcare movers and a HAZMAT transportation company. The move was accomplished in two phases and completed early, which minimized staff and patient interruptions and allowed earlier access to the new facility improvements. Mill Creek’s SOW also included medical casework design, FF&E procurement, medical equipment planning, interior design, procurement/installation, resource protection, Owner training, quality control management, billings and close-out. Additionally, all public relations notifications/special events were planned for and provided by Mill Creek.
